Amazing & Rare Columbus Gruen Antique Pocket Watch Movement All Original Piece

  

AMAZING & RARE COLUMBUS GRUEN ANTIQUE POCKET WATCH MOVEMENT ALL ORIGINAL PIECE. This is a larger Mens size 14 piece (49mm in diameter).

These Swiss made Columbus pieces are uncommon though when they are seen they are usually the 18 size pieces, this is a 14 size which is very rare and I have not seen another. Movement is just a touch over 40mm in diameter which is a correct US 14s.

Another great thing about this watch is that it is in its original coin silver case which is very thick with amazing looking ribbed edges and fancy hand engraved designs. Even the case opening lip is fancy.

The case is also a very well done converted hunter case to open face so the front bezel is spring loaded and the crystal installed in the inner bezel sits perfectly high out of the case past the second bezel to make it a neat open face piece, just perfection. This is such an amazing condition piece all round and seen hardly any use. There is interestingly is no serial number on this ¾ plate movement and simply marked C. This to me would indicate it was an extremely early piece from Gruen or a model piece. It is a nickel damaskeened movement with what looks like 15 jewels. The case is very tight all over, hinges are tight and the case opens and closes perfectly with no gaps. The case has some shallow impressions on the case back but I would not call them dents. The case has great early offset hinges. The dial is an amazing piece and look near perfect to me. This dial has the earliest fancy CWCo intertwined logo which is uncommon and only found on the earliest Swiss Columbus pieces. The watch is stem wind and lever set.

The lever is a special cut in side lever and is custom fit to the bezel perfectly. The watch runs and the hands set well. This is an amazing piece with many unique and rare features.

You do not see these in 14 size ever so if you collect these this is your opportunity as you will not find another especially in this outstanding condition.
