Circa 1800 Frederic Japy Verge Escapement Alarm Pocket Watch Movement (BM19). Please see photographs for condition - the pictures form an important part of the description. A rare and historically important Verge Escapement alarm pocket watch movement, framework by Frederic Japy.

Movement is not working and needs restoration and parts. Frame stamped JAPY with an additional stamping of initials over the top, unsure who they refer to. The movement has two mainspring barrels, one is wound with a key, the other is key wound with a fusee. Both barrels wind fine and the chain is present and secure.

The balance is present and has good pivots but it is stiff and not rotating freely. Dial and other parts are missing and will need manufacturing or replacing. A good historical piece by a famous maker, look up Frederic Japy, he was responsible for creating a lot of the processes that watchmakers used nearly 200 years later. Measures 49.56mm on the dial side and 43.55mm on the reverse approx.
