A True 1928 Time Capsule. NOS 1928 Elgin Model 2.

Grade 301 12S Pocket Watch. With the Original Elgin Slip Box. And the Original Elgin Movement Tin. Half Hunter Case w/Perfect Glass Crystal. An impossible estate find that has been preserved for the last 89 years!

Completely undisturbed Elgin movement along with the intended case that were never put together. The Elgin movement shows no oxidation, corrosion of any kind. Boss cardboard hang tag still in magnificent condition hanging from the beautiful Gold Plated Hunter Case.

The serial numbers on the movement correspond exactly to the serial numbers on the Elgin box. The movement and case were kept together for decades until finally winding up in the hands of a wealthy watch collector, whose estate sale encompassed over 500 rare, highly collectible pieces in Illinois a few years ago. Should the movement ever be put inside that Jas. Everything is perfectly preserved new, even though nearing a century in age. The dial has no hairlines.

The 12 hour Arabic Dial Numerals still glisten new since they have seldom been exposed to any outside elements. The glass crystal on the case doesn't have a single distracting mark. The old adage' You're Only New Once' applies here. The Roaring Twenties had been a time of enormous wealth building.

The unemployment rate was a mere 4.2%. The emergence of credit along with the surge in automobile production (to the detriment of rail travel) allowed people to suddenly move to the suburbs. Americans had more free time on their hands and the sports teams were one of many venues that benefited. Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig tied the AL that season, each with 142 RBI's. Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris had not even been born yet.

Clara Bow and John Gilbert were 2 of Hollywood's biggest'players' (not until later were they addressed as stars, as this was the era of the Silent Films). Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton had the public howling in laughter with their comedic antics on celluloid.

The newly wealthy could be seen driving Jordan Playboys, Auburns, Pierce Arrows, Stutz Bearcats or Packards. Ford had introduced its all new Model A. Many of those beautiful machines were later melted down in the great scrap drive of WW2.

In the midst of the'Roaring Twenties' with unprecedented wealth building, an unknown jeweler ordered in this Elgin movement and Jas. Somehow, for some mysterious reason, it was not only never put together but was also carefully preserved all through the Great Depression, WW2, Korean War, the Post WW2 Economic American resurgence etc. Did the great Stock Market Crash of'29 wipe the jeweler out? Who kept the Elgin and Jas. Boss Case together so perfectly preserved?

We'll probably never know that 89 year old mystery. The opportunity to own one even rarer.

Now is one of those times. Specifics of Elgin Model 2, Grade 301. Seven jewels settings, comprised of Ruby balance jewels. Breguet hair spring with polished regulator. Photos are always of the actual item being auctioned.
