A Karrusel Bahne Bonniksen Pocket Watch Movement - Retailed by Stewart, Glasgow. Please study the photographs carefully for more details on the condition as it forms an incredibly important part of the description. Please note: the balance is loose on the movement and the balance staff most likely is at fault and in need of repair or replacement. This incredibly rare movement was retailed by R. Stewart, Glasgow (Corner of Argyle and Buchanan Street) (Robert Stewart was Goldsmith, Silversmith and Jeweler to Queen Victoria). The movement is stamped (10th picture) Patent, BB, 21421 on the underside of the plate.

Bahne Bonniksen (BB) - inventor of the Karrusel - the escapement carriage revolves in an anti-clockwise direction once every 52.5 minutes. This rotating Karrusel helped to cancel out the effects that gravity had on the escapement and made the movement very accurate at maintaining time keeping. Karrusel pocket watches scored highly at Kew observatory trials. Condition - please study the photographs, but my notes on the movement are as follows: The balance is loose with a broken staff, the dial is perfect with no cracks or chips. Some oxidisation visible on the minute hand as well as under the dial.

The movement in general looks in "good" condition considering its age. The movement came from an ex-Jewellers collection which looks to have been untouched for at least a generation with the most "recent" item in the collection of movements and jewelery being from the 1930s. My guess is that nearly 100 years ago this watch was removed from its case, the case scrapped and the movement has not seen the light of day until now.
