ANTIQUE 9ct GOLD WALTHAM POCKET WATCH-1905 NSW POLICE PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION

  

Solid Yellow Gold 9ct, 375 (Hallmarked) Hunter Case, with internal dust Cover. Movement - Waltham Hand Wind White Enamel Dial, Black Roman numerals Gold Hour/Minute/seconds hands Time Setting with pull out crown Total weight 91.1 grams Approx 5cms across. This genuine old pocket watch is in good condition, clean and with some age patina. Movement is in working condition and appears to run to good time keeping.

Dial very nice, expect some small marks, there is a slight damage to the enamel near the 8 o'clock marker. Case is hallmarked with several hallmarks, indicating it is 9ct, 375 Gold.

Signed Dial, Case and Movement Serial number indicates a 1902 Manufacture Monogram engraved on front cover JAC. Inner Gold dust lid has an inscription relating to an Australian , Sydney, New South Wales, policeman... A SEARCH HAS REVEALED ON THE TROVE (National Library Australia) site, that an article relating to this watch presentation was reported in The Sydney Morning Herald, on Sat 11th February, 1905, on page 10, in the'personal' column.... Senior Constable Curtis, one of the most popular men on the force, was recently transfered to Petersham from No2 station, where he had been attached for upwards of 16 years, was presented with a gold watch and chain, suitably inscribed by his commrades in No2 division, at the Prince of Wales Hotel, George street, last evening.

The presentation was made by Sergeant Thompson........ The watch bears this inscription Presented to SENIOR CONSTABLE CURTIS by his Commrades of No2 POLICE DIVn as a mark of their esteem on his transfer to No11 DIVn FEBy.
