Pre Waterbury Circa 1870s Benedict and Burnham Skeletonized - 6 Spoke Long Wind Extremely Rare Nickel Plated pocket watch in Running condition with no dents or dings and just simply a wonderful and extremely rare survivor. This example is all original. Still has its original rare paper dial in exceptional condition considering it's fragile nature and very nice original hands as pictured.

Mechanism is in running condition but the hour hand (Smaller hand) is loose and will need some tightening as it moved a bit here and there when I flick the wrist to allow the Mechanism to work, However it does take time once set as the minute hand and hour hand is in working condition. Most notable is that the hand seems loose when set between 1 and 4 o'clock area. I thought about looking into tightening the hour hand myself but I don't have the correct tool and in all honesty I didn't want to force or damage the movement and especially the hands in anyway. I figured I leave that up to someone that is much more qualified and with the proper tools to do so..

The crystal is free from any damage, cracks or chips. The original paper paper face as previously mentioned is in really nice condition considering it's age as you can clearly see from the pictures. The front cover comes off so you can adjust the hands manually.

The back cover is free from any dings and pops off very easily. The back cover also has a tendency to spin a bit in place when moving it around the palm of your hand but it is completely secure to the back of the pocket watch as it should be. From my understanding and research this is a extremely rare example as it is Pre Waterbury and made by Benedict and Burnham in 1878 or earlier. The Name Benedict and Burnham Mfg is located on the back of the movement on the main spring cover.

The Rotary is designed of 58 different parts and has a Duplex escapement Skeletonized movement. I added additional information on the very bottom of the listing as well. This was all collected by 1 owner over many years. Some really rare examples were highlighted with some pocket watches fetching thousands of dollars. As for the overall condition, I would say it's in beautiful condition with some typical age related wear to the watch such as some light brush marks and overall age wear to the Nickel plate finish (I usually call it a nice overall patina but that's just my opinion) and a few very minor light surface scratches on the crystal and some discoloring to the paper dial. As previously mentioned that the hour hand needs some tightening. I also recommend some type of servicing like anything this old and fragile should have. It definitely would complement the piece as it is quite rare and I believe it is well worth doing.

If you have any questions regarding this piece or would like additional pictures please don't hesitate to contact me and I will gladly get back to you ASAP &####128077. If you have any type of issues with the watch and decide for some reason you don't want it? I won't have any problem at all taking the watch back because in all honesty it's a tough one to let go of.... The fact that it's in working condition says everything and the overall condition and craftsmanship speaks for itself. From my understanding you must keep winding the watch every 12 hours or so and it can take up to 2 minutes to fully wind.

I really didn't want to keep winding it because of how sensitive these time pieces can be.
