An exceptional high grade Swiss repeating pocket watch movement. The issues with this are as follows: The pivot for the sub second hand to fit to has come off, the gong spring has snapped off, this is also included (and pictured) but the loose piece does have signs of some corrosion. This could perhaps be re-attached or used to model a replacement part from. The watch winds fine, ticks away happily until fully unwound without problems.

The repeating mechanism is also working. When the lever is pulled the gongs strike to tell the time, the only problem is the hour strike sounds dull due to the broken gong spring. Gold train wheels and what looks to be a gold winding crown also, but this has not been tested. The movement came with the pictured parts including a snap on dial signed for John Hutton, London. Possibly the retailer of this piece but certainly not the maker. This came from a collection from an Ex-Jeweller and Watchmaker, it is likely the movement was taken out of its case and scrapped many years ago due to the faults with the watch itself.

At the time, repairing a broken sub-second pivot and the gong spring would have been quite costly and scrapping it would have been more cost effective, especially in the depression. But now, these movements are emerging from collections all over the world and are becoming more and more sought after, in some cases even more valuable than the scrapped gold. The movement measures 43.25mm across the widest visible point.
