Trade card in Banks Collection (D, 2.1476) advertises Tregent, Watch & Clock Maker, To their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and Duke of Kent.... His Will dated 31 March 1806 is in the National Archives, PROB 11/1440/351. THE DIAL : 97%, the white enamel dial with fine black Roman numerals, and a separate minute track to outside of dial, with a small filled edge chip at 4.30 to 5.45. The dial with fine gold hands. THE DUST CUVETEE : 97%, the gilt metal dust cover with blue steel clip (fully working) and signed Jm.
Tregent, Watchmaker to Ye Prince of Wales, No 3243. With small viewing panel and keyway arbor for time adjustment. THE MOVEMENT : 100% mint, with richly gilded full plate in wonderful condition. The balance cock and foot in superb condition and of a roccoco type pattern. The balance cock with a large diamond end-stone to the centre of the shiny steel three arm balance wheel.
The back plate with further decoration and a blued steel Tompion regulator, with finely etched hand and finger pointing to time adjustment. Movement with fusee chain on and good free swinging cylinder escape. The watch is keywind, and movement size is 37 mm diameter and movement depth front front dial plate to back of balance cock is 11 mm.
The escapement with a very good and strong action and jewelled to this wheel. The movement signed by Jm. Tregent Watchmaker to the Prince of Wales , and there is a number 3243.Pierced gilded fusee stop work with iron hinge.
